Winter Themed Math Bundle for K-1

I’m not sure which season I love best- fall or winter.  When you live in the great white north, you have to like winter even just a little bit.   So, in the spirit of one my favorite seasons, I created math center activities for kindergarten and first grade.  This bundle is jam packed with 12 hands-on winter-themed activities for your kiddos.   Here’s a peek of what’s in the pack: Play Doh mats are one of my favorite hands-on activities for introducing basic number concepts.  I’m pretty picky about my doh so I make my own using a common recipe that can be found on the internet.  The trick is to make the doh using either alum or cream

DIY Number Puzzles

I’ve been seeing number puzzles all over Pinterest.  These puzzles are ideal for independent centers for working with number order.  They’ve been printing the  puzzles on card stock and cutting and the pieces.  That’s a great idea, but I thought if we created the puzzles on craft sticks they’d be much more durable and will last for years to come.  Sure, it’s a little more work on the front-end, but it’s so well worth the effort. Making your own puzzles is super easy.  All you’ll need is Mod Podge, large craft sticks and pictures.  I created my own pictures on the computer which you could download for free.  You could also copy your own photographs on a printer or use

Monsters and Aliens, Oh My!

Well I made the Candy Corn Alphabet activity with a cute little box found at JoAnn Fabrics and the Halloween Rhyming game with plastic discs found at Michaels Craft Store; I just couldn’t leave out my other favorite craft store- the Hobby Lobby.  While on my shopping trip with my daughter in the “big city” of Lansing, we stopped by the Hobby Lobby and found these cute little foam aliens.  I thought they’d be perfect for a Halloween-themed math center activity.   Okay– there is some assembly involved, but aren’t they so, so cute?  There are a total of 30 aliens! The directions for assembly are on the pdf which you can download for free. This is what the package looks

Spring Math and Word Family Activities

Just before heading out for a walk the other day, my friend showed me a robin’s nest complete with three chirping baby robins who took up temporary residence in her garage.  That reminded me that I haven’t yet posted the Robin’s Nest Addition Freebie on the blog.  I know there’s only days left until summer vacation (technically 8 day for me), but this activity is pretty quick and easy to make. The Robin’s Nest Addition Addition activity can be found in my online Teachers Pay Teachers store. If you like this activity you may also want to check out these other Robin’s Nest themed activities.
